Feb. 8--A Fort Worth firefighter was killed and two other firefighters were injured this weekend in a one-vehicle rollover crash on a New Mexico highway.
David Eaves, 40, an 11-year veteran of the department, was ejected from the vehicle shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 64 near Raton, according to the New Mexico Department of Public Safety.
Eaves was headed to Colorado on a ski trip with fellow firefighters, Eric Thompson, 44, and Michael Josh Pool, said Tim Hardeman, a Fort Worth fire spokesman. No age was available for Pool.
The 2007 Ford pick-up the men were traveling in apparently slid off the roadway and rolled, DPS reported.
Pool was reportedly also ejected, Hardeman said. But neither he nor Thompson suffered life threatening injuries. They are expected to return to Fort Worth Tuesday, he said.
Eaves worked at Station 8 on Rosedale Street near 8th Avenue, Hardeman said. He is the son of retired Fort Worth firefighter, Jim Eaves.
Eaves is survived by his wife Kim Wood, a son, Jake, 13, and stepdaughters, Mercedes, 20, and Stacia, 15,
